Hi, has anyone ever bought any chickens / livestock from Chelford Market - (close to Alderley Edge)? My sister & her hubby are going on Monday for a browse & will probably buy too. I have warned her that some birds bought from there a while back, were in the News about having Bird Flu. That was a while back, but I'm still concerned!

Just wondered if anyone else had birds from there at all?

Markets can be dodgy, Craftyhunnypie....although I daresay some are perfectly fine.

Unscrupulous dealers often use them to get rid of dodgy stock.....and sometimes you have to buy a trio and so are stuck with a cockerel.

Apparently it is not unusual to drive home from these markets and see the roosters from a trio dumped along the roadside. :?

cockerels dumped? Cockerels are no problem to her, as she lives on a farm and has turkey rearing sheds & has built some new chicken coops, with the help from her hubby & they are dotted around each field. I wouldn't like to be her going round shutting them in & letting them out..good job she uses the quad bike! (mad woman)!

Her husband is pretty good at choosing livestock & they are now taking a friend with them, who breeds chickens - mainly marans & Welsummers. So hopefully they will know what to look for.

I personally wouldn't buy from a market - I like a reputable breeder that I know cares for the chooks & vaccinates them too.

Each to their own I suppose.

I still think you can't beat the original Omlet chooks..My Blanche & Audrey are the best! Love them to bits.

Love the others too, but my leghorn is soooooo naughty!
