How high do you raise your Eglu?

Recommended Posts

...and Tony has just called me! :)

The platform weighs 20.3Kg without packaging, which is why Parcel Force charge so much.

However, he's now found a courier company called Parcels2Go (sp?) who can deliver it for £15, which he's pretty happy about.

I'm getting mine on Friday - he's bringing it round to see if I have any trouble assembling it - a perk of being the product tester! ;)

We're very pleased with our Eglu platform!

The Eglu is much higher now than when I had it on bricks, which means the chickens can run around underneath easily. It makes a huge difference when cleaning the Eglu too, as I can just swivel it to one side.

My platform is a prototype but it seems pretty much perfect. I think Tony said he will use slightly better timber from now on, as he had to get mine from B&Q in order to build it in time. Also, I've suggested he add a couple more "rungs" to the ramp, as our bantams struggle slightly to go up and down it (well, they flap their wings a bit for balance anyway!).

I like this one best :) :

Nice! It looks really good Adam. Luna's looking good too!

Thanks! Yes, she is completely confident now, and her feathers have almost completely grown back from where she was pecked. Strangely though, the white silkie who was persecuting her (Pootle) now seems to be lowest in the pecking order. We feel a bit guilty about that, as we confined her to the Eglu for a bit in the first few days, to give Luna some peace. Now, Pootle sits on the floor while all the others are up on the perch, and she is always the last to come and get any treats :(. Hopefully her confidence will come back once she starts laying.

I just wanted to show our platform. Hubby made it himself and he made it "slatted" so if there were any poo's they would fall through. It was very sturdy as I've sat on it (and im much heavier than 4 stone! ) so sufficient for 2 eglu's moomin.

Thanks Chelsea, I've saved the photo of yours as I think it's a good design, I like the mezzanine floor as well. Husband reckons he can copy it, (I hope can).

We are making it about 70cms high. Tony is making my run too and he is going to make two flaps for the poo trays to be removed without having to go inside and swivel the eglus round (I saw this on Rona's run - hope everyone doesn't mind me copying their ideas!! ).
