Chooks Aloud
I've put a plant pot holder filled with aubiouse in the eglu and also a bowl outside of the eglu filled with aubiouse to give my chooks other places to lay if one bird is already on the nest. But when I get in from work I sometimes find that one egg has been broken/trodden on by a clumsy chook. What else can I do? They all want to lay in the same place but are just so clumsy with the eggs. They are not deliberately doing this to eat them, as the remains are left. CatsCube
Hmm Im surprised they arnt eating them mine gobble down any breakages. How many chickens do you have that are trying to lay? They wont use the other nesting pot unless its somewhere private. can you try putting it in a box or cat travel basket or something? It may just be one clumsy chook and if they are at least laying in differnt places some may remain intact. Also are you collecting every day before they go to bed at night. As if they are trying to get into the nesting box to sleep at night this may well be whats causing them to break.
Chooks Aloud
They are collected as soon as the first person arrives home, but this can vary from 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. I have put another container inside the eglu, making it private but it's never been used. I wonder if they just slip when getting on/off because they trundle the egg down the ladder and outside. Karen
