Is it okay to just rake your chicken poo into the lawn?

Recommended Posts

Oooooh, relief! Because since receiving the chooks mid Feb, that is exactly what I have done! I am really vigilant about scrubbing their eglu out though. I do this around twice a week; I want them to be comfortable, and I empty the droppings tray every day and change their shredded paper daily. I just had a panic attack having read a post about someone losing a chicken to 'fly strike', and wondered if all that chicken poo starts to attract flies that will lay eggs on the chickens, or that they will pick up parasites living in the poo? Am starting to worry about just about everything! Want to do everything I can to keep them healthy. But I'd heard the chicken poo was good for the lawn as it is full of nitrates, so I figured it would just decompose.

Tell me about it!! Am trying to chill out though - otherwise you don't get to enjoy them. Had a total panic attack about prolapses when I read about them in Practical Poultry.:shock:

I suppose it's just everything is SO new, but eventually I hope you can relax... Someone tell me you can eventually relax... Please....
