This may not be of use to any of you gorgeous "slapheads" out there, but I came across this tonight:

 

Natural hair conditioner: This treatment is better done over a sink rather than in the shower, as it'll make you smell like a salad. But it's worth it, as the treatment helps detox the scalp from oils, built-up conditioners, and dirt.

 

* 1 beaten whole egg

* 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

 

 

Hanging your head in the sink, wet your hair and gently massage in the egg, taking extra care with your scalp. Let the egg sit for about a minute, before rinsing thoroughly. Massage in the mayonnaise in the same way, this time paying attention to the tips of the hair, and let it sit for about two to three minutes. For a deeper conditioning, wrap your head in a towel for 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water and then wash with your normal shampoo, but don't condition.

I tried that once Sue years ago, personally I wouldn't recommend it

 

a) It stinks and it's messy

b) My hair was greasy for a week even after 2 normal washes

 

However I do have 'normal' hair so maybe it would be better for someone with dry, coloured or permed hair?

My grandmother used to crack an egg on our heads if our hair was looking a bit dry. She'd really massage it in and then wash out with shampoo...

Actualy, it wasn't all that tempting to me, but I thought I would pass it along (good that you have added a caveat).

 

It could be a useful experiment in putting a "softie" to good use. But what would I know, given that my prior expeience doesn't nclude them.

 

I would much rather eat an egg than rub it into my hair but, hey, it is an option.

NB: thats WARM water to rinse in not HOT, unless you'd like poached egg in your hair.

In the Hairwashing without shampoo thread, you can see that several people regularly use egg on their hair. Those of us who valiantly followed this through have detoxed our hair, so maybe that helps.
