It sounds like you are doing everything you can Debbie. If she is still only 24 - 26 weeks her egg laying tackle is still immature and she may just need a bit more time to get into the swing of things. It's very common for a hen just coming into lay to have a run of soft shells. One of mine is prone to them - when she first started laying her first 4 were soft/thin shelled, then at 18 months old she moulted and stopped laying. Again, when she came back into lay we had a run of 6 or 7 that were soft or thin. She lays perfect eggs now! 8)

If an egg breaks in the run, there is not alot you can do about them eating it. As long as they don't learn how to break the shells of whole eggs - often they don't seem to realise that they are the same thing, luckily! Obviously, if you can, remove any broken eggs as soon as possible, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. :D

oh hubby def dont liek them eating it  they get the story get of thats mine well was so u not having , they not as far as i know done a egg with hard shell, just these 2 out on my lawn, that were soft, we had last week i think one in run but we think it broke when it hit floor they left the shell ate the egg inside, the one in coop was left alone so that looks good? the ones when she has them soft, dont break until they peck it, looks like a rubber egg, they seem to bounce like a small jelly

I can't quite work out what you are trying to say debbie.

I think your hens are still very young and it is not unusual to have a few blips in the egg laying department until their tackle settles down.

I'm afraid it's pretty inevitable that they will peck at soft eggs, out of curiosity more than anything.
