Hemcore - how big is a bale?

Recommended Posts

We have our chooks on bark at the moment both in and surrounding the Eglo. The Eglo is on a raised area as our garden can have a very high water level and we need to think about how we will manage next winter. Yes already.

We are considering surrounding the Eglo with pavers and using Hemcore (still got to look into the other product mentioned on the forum, can't think of it's name,) inside the run. Any comments on this please.

One question, how big is a bale of Hemcore (my mind goes to the bales of straw seen in the fields at harvest time- mind doing overtime?) and how much storeage space will we need. We don't have a large garden or lots of storage space. but after reading all the info on here feel we should change from bark to Hemcore. Composting the used Hemcore will not be a problem as we can take it to our allotment should our composter here fill to quickly.jjjj

I bought some hemcore with which to replace my bark chippings which I use like you do - but have stuckwith the chippings as the hemcore seemed to fly everywhere and doesn't cope too well in the rain - i use it in the nesting bix and under the roosting bars to absorb the poo and the smell and it's wonderful! But others will swear hemcore is better than chippings- it's just a matter of preference I think. And hemcore smells lovely!
