BarbaraJ
Fairly new myself and i'm sure someone with more experience will be along soon but 1, will it be ok to keep 3 hens in eglu and run all day while I'm at work? will the run be big enough? don't actually have an eglu but i believe it would be ok by what i've read on here, as long as there is things to do in the run. 2,what is hemcor (don't think thats the right name) hemcore is horse bedding which absorbs poop , i use aubiose which is similar in my run and coop. anyway do you need it if putting bark in the run and can you use any bark? its advised not to use bark as it can harbour mould , wood chip is what you need, b&q 4.95 3 I like to get up a bit latter at weekends if Ali my dog (chocolate lab x springer spanial who I love very much)lets me, do hens like to sleep in too Personally my hens are let out about 7-7.30 in the week and 8-8.30 at weekends, they seem fine with this! I feel that they get used to the routine you do. if you let them out at 6 then they will expect that! sorry thats way too early for me! Mcpen
Thanks Barbara Its all beginning to make sense Didn,t know that about bark so will steer clear of that. What thing do you leave in run to play with?
BarbaraJ
Their favourite so far is a mirror, some tree branches for perches, a tree stump (very popular) though may be too big for an eglu run and dust bath.
Egluntyne
Hello again, sure I will get there in the end This is the start of my may questions,1, will it be ok to keep 3 hens in eglu and run all day while I'm at work? will the run be big enough? You can keep 3 in an Eglu, but if they are there all day whilst you are at work you might want to consider adding a run extension. 2,what is hemcor (don't think thats the right name) anyway do you need it if putting bark in the run and can you use any bark? Read about Hemcore **here**. Wood chippings are better than bark, which gets slimy, smelly and can harbour spores and parasites. 3 I like to get up a bit latter at weekends if Ali my dog (chocolate lab x springer spanial who I love very much)lets me, do hens like to sleep in too You do need to let them out fairly early. In the summer I wouldn't leave mine cooped up beyond 7.30. In the winter you get a much longer lie in.
