crazygal
I'm posting for a work colleague- I wonder if anyone has any ideas? She has one chicken, has had her for about a year, and just in the last few weeks it has become aggressive- if her or her children go in the garden it will rush up to them and try and peck them. Its getting to be quite a problem for her. She wonders whether its lonely, but getting another chicken may make it worse? Its still laying and I presume its healthy (I haven't actually seen it). thanks for any advice!
TAJ
I would suggest adding two more - chickens shouldn't be alone - others have said a lone chicken has been much improved with company. Tracy
Laura & CTB
I agree with Tracy - please suggest she gets two more, it cant be much fun for a lone chook.
chickenanne
Absolutely, cheickens need company. It's probably behaving oddly because it's so unnatural for them to be alone. Either she should add 2 more or rehome the one she has, it's not fair to keep one chicken on its own.
Abbey Road Girl
I once had a singleton for a few years out of pure ignorance and she was fine. However, Heckle could have been the exception that proved the rule. I would go along with Laura and Anne and recommend your colleague getting two (not one) more. And they should be of a similar size to the singleton, I would guess.
crazygal
thanks- I suspected that was the case that she needs company. As she has had her chicken for over a year and I've only had mine for a matter of months I'm a bit loath to be dishing out advice like I know it all, but I shall pass on your words. Egluntyne
I agree with what has been said.....2 will be company for her....and she will be outnumbered so hopefully she wont get too bossy.
