We've just got the first egg from our gingernut girls.

 

Violet has laid a perfect little 44g egg but we almost missed it as she decided to lay it under a shrub in the garden. If one of the others hadn't kicked the egg onto the lawn as she was dustbathing we wouldn't have found it.

 

She's been in and out of the nestbox all weekend but has obviously decided that although it's good enough.

 

Anyone know where I can buy pot eggs individually? The sites that google suggested all sell them in 6's.

I bought mine from ebay. Two hard, rubber eggs for £4.50 including postage.

Congrats on your first egg

 

We used a golf ball in the nesting box to encourage the girls where to lay. Supposedly it's good for teaching them not to peck their eggs too because it has some "bounce back" on their beaks.

I was just about to put a decorative marble egg into the charity bag but realised that it had a practical use after all these years of just laying around in its saucer!

We left the other girls eggs in the nestbox all day and confined them all to the run and she has finally got the idea and started laying in the nest box
