Westie
Hi All Normally I don't worry about peppers as she can produce a few soft shells etc but today she has been in the nest since early morning, except when disturbed and drinks alot of water. She has a mucky bum and a bit of the old D but they eat alot of slugs etc so not totally abnormal for her. The other chook is fine. If anyone out there has experience of this would be pleased to hear from you. Normally I leave her to get on with things in her own way but this is going on a bit. many thanks Westie

Christian
Hello Westie, sorry to hear that peps is acting strangely. Try giving her a tablespoon of olive oil to loosen her up, cod liver oil is also good. Keep an eye on her and if she isn't any better then a trip to the vets might be in order. Maybe she is brewing another softie? Mine can look dreadful when one is coming. Hope she is better soon. Westie
Many thanks Christian Barbara @ omlet has also replied - pets always go funny on a bank hol don't they! Peps has perked up alot. She has quite a few double soft shells so I tend to be quite calm about those as I've learnt the signs - today was different and thinking about it she hasn't really been on form in the egg shell quality division since she produced her 3 yoker, 120 g. about 7 days ago. She seems much better tonight and her feathers have closed back around her vent, no soft shell etc, but I think I will sleep easy tonight. Looking at another thread I may get some limestone flour as backup. BFN Westie
