rachel m
today we have had 2 normal eggs and 2 soft shelled eggs, one was just inside the run, and my hubby saw nigella laying another soft shell egg in the back of the garden when he let her out tonight. so either one girl has tried to lay 3 today or they have both tried to lay twice?!? i thought it would be pretty unusual to lay 2 in a day, but seems too much of a co-incidence they have both done this. is a softie instead of a normal egg or can it be in addition to a normal one?? feeling rather confused as we thought we had cracked this chicken/egg game
Ain't Nobody Here
I always thought a softie was instead of a normal egg but it looks like your girls have disproved that . I believe they can find softies hard to pass so perhaps it was yesterday's that was caught up by today's? Did they lay normally yesterday? rachel m
we were away but our neighbours (who are experienced with chickens) kept an eye on them and said they had 2 eggs on sunday and monday, and didn't mention any particular problems. i would have been suprised with one soft shell with 2 normals, but 2 of each?? Ain't Nobody Here
Yes, it is a bit odd that they both did the same thing . Hopefully they'll be back to normal now .
SharonX
Hi, One of mine laid 3 in one day. She laid a normal egg in the morning then about 7 in the evening I saw her crouching and acting a little strange out on the grass in the garden. She passed a softie then about 10 minutes later she passed another one. These would both have been normal sized eggs so this does happen because I saw it with my own eyes. I put her on extra limestone flour and she's back to normal now.
