Hi All,

 

Had an odd thing happen this morning? Tikka always lays first and early on. I was woken up at 8 because Madras was upset and making disturbed bokking noises. Went to have a look and Madras was in the nest box laying but she had Tikkas egg under her crop and she had crushed it a bit?

 

My questions are;

 

1) Tikkas egg looked brittle and must have been for Madras to squidge it a bit, but they both have exacty the same grub and I add limestone flour and they have calcium grit plus Madras's egg this morning was perfect so I wonder why that was?

 

2) Do you think Madras might have realised she had squidged Tikka's egg and that is why she was upset? It's never happened before?

I don't think chickens have the same thought processes as humans and I don't think Madras would have realised that she had broken Tikka's egg and therefore would not have been upset by it.

 

At the moment 3 of my chickens lay normal hard shelled eggs and one, every now and then, lays soft shelled eggs. They all have access to the same food source. I think chickens are individuals and take their own time in settling down to a laying pattern and as long as they look healthy and are eating and drinking then you probably don't have anything to worry about.
