abwsco
Will water melon give chickens the runs? One of mine has gorged on some tonight then did a yucky squitty poo a bit later. With one of my exbatts already being a bit under the weather I'm just hoping it's that.
Abbey Road Girl
I can't answer the question you asked, Anne, but it's now acknowledged that watermelon, once derided as nothing more than sugar and water, is really good for you. Let's hope it's the same for hens. In any event you could give a little bokashi mash to firm up the poos.
Laura & CTB
Yes - I've found anything watery like melon, lettuce, grapes, cucumber does give them watery poo for a short while. Now they usually dont get these things until they're back in the run
Troy
My grandad always had chickens and we grew up with them throughout the summer holidays when we would visit. Ahh those memories! On really warm days he would always cut up watermelon for us children and all the green slices he would send us to give to his flocks - they absolutely loved pecking at the remaining flesh and it would keep them busy for quite a while! Grandad said it was the best way of ensuring his chooks got plenty of water on those hot dry days (this was in Cyprus) I guess poos will be watery especially if they are getting the red part too - but I think we were like that too!!! abwsco
Thanks Sue, Laura and Troy. I did think it would just be the water melon but I'm still in panic mode over poos-lol BTW does it ever stop?
Guest
DH and I have just had some Cantaloupe with rhubarb yoghurt so we gave the girls some of the melon. Bea loved it, Fatima would only eat bits out of my hand. They took every last piece out of their bowl and deposited it on the patio and flounced off. What a waste as I love cantalopue! I had to pick it all up before the ants got to it! They had grapes earlier too, hope they're not going to get the squits
