Leon to be neutered!

Recommended Posts

He's there now, I took him at 9:10am.

I have to phone between 2 and 3pm.

I will keep him inside tonight, and he'll have lots of cuddles!

The vets told me when I booked, to feed him as normal, but give him lots o roughage.

Can anyone tell me why this is. As with most pets you have to starve them before a general anasthetic.

I'm hoping (from what i've read) he may be a bit cleaner and a bit easier to toilet train! He would rather do it in his bed than anywhere else, whereas Mystique doesn't even do 1 in her whole hutch, it's all outside!

Rabbits cannot be starved- they have to have a constant flow of food through their digestive systems. Also anaesthetic works differently on rabbits because they breathe so rapidly compared to other animals they have to be given more to sedate them.

So when you go to collect Leon he may be quite quiet still so it's definitely treats to get him to keep eating. My rabbits all came through with no problems- one was still dopey the next day so lots of fuss and apples did the job. She was quite a dopey bunny anyway. :D

It's always a worry when you hand them over- but it really is the best thing for him and quite a minor op. It usually helps their litter training and makes things less smelly.

Thanks, I did think it was because they are grazers, but I didn't see the vet this morning, just the receptionist, so didn't ask my question!

Also, something I was going to ask the vet, but how long until he is no longer fertile?

Leon is fine :)

Just in his box with some food and an apple until home time.

The vet said he did excellent under anasthetic, and was no problems at all. She said t wait about a month until he is no longer fertile.

It's no problem, as I only get their new house tomorrow, and then I have to build it lol
