KarmaMama
I have only had my chickens for about 3 - 4 weeks and they are only about 13 weeks old, so this is a real novice question How much do chickens sit down? All of my chooks (apart from the two Cream Legbars who never seem to stop moving) seem to be constantly plonking themselves down and one of them likes sitting in the cube door - are they ill or is this quite normal behaviour? Thanks in advance for any advice Jacquie x
TAJ
What sort of sitting? Sitting doing nothing with eyes closed is very different to sitting cleaning themselves. In this warmer dry weather mine can spend hours sitting in a dust bath together cleaning themselves, but other than that will be constantly on the go. Are they bored? How much space have they got & what is there to keep them interested? For example, if in a run on a hard surface having mixed corn, grit etc. to scratch around for in auboise would give them something to do treats hanging that they have to work to get may also entertain them. Nuggywoo
Hi KarmaMama, it's because they're babies, they only have little legs and get tired quickly. My 'kids' are just over 13 wks and flop down, get up, flop down, get up for most of the day... (ps mine free range)
Gallina
When they are young they lie down most of the time. Make the most of it: when they reach point of lay you won't even be able to open the run door to put food in while they are up.
MadMitch
Mine are always plonking themselves down but they are still babies also. They are a bit like my cats, they whizz around for a while then stop for a snooze then start all over again.
