So can anyone recommend books on chickens they think are particulary good? ones that have proven helpful to you as you care for your birds? Lisastyal Posted May 21, 2008 Share Posted May 21, 2008 sorry not too much help with books but the pic above is like my two silkies - salt and pepper and it made me smile I got a few from pet shops - just picked up anything to do with poultry / chicken keeping. I also get books out the library as you can get some of the bigger books and different libraries seem to have slightly different books! Before I got the girls I got the following books from Amazon and have found them great to 'dip in too'. 1) Keeping Pet Chickens - Johannes Paul and William Wndham. ISBN 978-1-84286-103-5 2) Choosing and keeping chickens - Chris Graham. ISBN 978-0-600-61438-8 3) Keeping Chickens - The essential guide to enjoying and getting the best from chickens. Published by David and Charles (I can't make head nor tail of the ISBN on this one) All the books have lovely photos, even if they do contradict each other slightly. Tessa the Duchess Posted May 21, 2008 Share Posted May 21, 2008 The first book I read about chicken keeping was 'Hen and the Art of Chicken Maintenance'. It is v.funny and also a bit offputting because they author had so many disasters and ill chickens it made me quite nervous. I have the 'Keeping Pet Chickens' book and I can recommend it, very simple, lots of pics and just generally informative. TAJ Posted May 21, 2008 Share Posted May 21, 2008 Keeping pet chickens mentioned above is very simple and a basic start - plus written by the guys at Omlet & has mk1 Omlet pictures in it. surferdog Posted May 22, 2008 Share Posted May 22, 2008 I got out every book our library had on chickens I then bought 'The Right Way to Keep Chickens' which seemed lovely beforehand but isn't actually that much use once you've got them (apart from the fab tips on cooking eggs).
