Newbies rule the roost!

Recommended Posts

We collected our new girls today - went for 2 but came back with 3! - a skyline (Susie) a speckedly (sadie) and an amber star (Clarissa). We put them with our two existing girls in the run -separated at first but then all together near bedtime. We had to go out and when we got back we found the three new girls had climbed the ladder and were all in the eglu but Olivia and Henrietta (our first two) were on the ground together looking very put out - I guess we won't have to worry too much about bullying! Will have to see what tomorrow will bring. Henrietta is broody too and still didn't go near the nesting box.

Humm, not exactly fun, woken up at 4.30 by a great squawking - Olivia and Henrietta protesting at the invasion - had to let them out eventually at 7.00 to stop them. Bit worried about nieighbours!

We put them together in the run later and there was more noise and ruffled feathers, We have now let O and H out again and peace reigns! Hope they can sort it out by the time we go back to work on Tuesday

We are having the same problem. We have one old girl, Karinda who, after Vanessa died last Bank Holiday had a couple of weeks by herself (and spoilt rotten by us as she had lost her mate). However we now have two newbies - Sophie and Betty. Karinda though is being a bit of a bully with Betty - biting her for no apparent reason, chasing after her and now, when we are trying to get them to sleep in the eglu together for the first time (we have kept them separated at night for the last week), has guarded the door and not let her in - Sophie however has been welcomed with open 'wings'. We have now resorted to putting Karinda in the 'converted' shed for tonight (where Sophie and Betty have been sleeping for the last week) hoping that she will get used to it over the next night or so. If they don't who knows what we are going to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A worried new(ish) Mum
