tatjana
One of our hens has been sitting on the nest on and off for the last two days but has not laid an egg. She is also the only one that is all dirty behind. I worry she may be egg bound. We bathed her in warm water but don’t know what else to do. Can any one offer any further advice? Karen Pimlott
her dirty vent ... does it look like soil/ash stuck in clumps on the feathers or is it poo like? she could have an infestation of northern mite in which case she will be very uncomfortable if it looks soily around the vent.(washing wont shift it) are her feathers fluffed or do they appear normal? have you looked at her vent to see if it looks bulging etc.... could be 1001 things... could you post a bit more info. Gamebird
Have you checked her for lice? Lice can stop them laying and give them dirty knickers.
chelsea
she might be broody if she isnt leaving the nest.....is she all puffed up and makes funny noises when you approach her? I would like the others advice - check for lice and mites. (that will stop them laying) Also if you havent done recently - a course of worming may help as that also causes a dirty bum
tatjana
Thank you everyone. All is well and panic is over. Marilyn sat in a bowl of warm water and twenty minutes later she laid an egg! Tatjana Sutton Lane Chicks
