Just checking the spare eglu this evening, just after our girls had gone to bed, this eglu is used by some of our hens to lay in. Tonight we found an egg almost twice as big as we have usually been getting from them that is between 55 to 75 grams. Tonight we have 110grams!

 

This could explain why we have a hen looking a bit under the weather if she has laid this extra large egg it will have taken it out of the poor thing.

 

Has anyone else had very large eggs and what was the state of your hen?

33g so far! Sounds small, but it's the only one we've ever had (therefore the biggest) and we're very happy with it

Crikey, I was amazed at finding a 75g egg the other day (ouch!) when my hens had been laying modest 35-45g eggs.

 

Any egg over (or even near) 100g has to be massive! Hope your hen figures out that she doesn't have to be an over-achiever!

I thought I would indicate that you'd had 5 x 100g - don't want to hide your girls' achievements under a bushel .

Not sure, really, it does seem quite unusual but I would just enjoy the huge eggs!

 

My largest has been 93g - I'm desperate to get onto that Board .

my girls are pretty new layers about 4 weeks now, sometimes they are small and crinkly as I have said in another thread, but we have had about 10 whoppers from them and 7 eggs this morning...very puzzling!!lol thanks for the replies I love this forum..you are a vast wealth of information for us newer mommy's
