Pear tree/rose problems

Recommended Posts

My pear tree is growing up the side of the garage wall. Some of it's leaves have turned black at the edges and some are starting to curl. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Also my climbing rose has white powdery leaves????

I think your rose has mildew. If you google for it I am sure you will find a site with good instructions on how to deal with it, as I believe it may be quite serious :?

Not sure about your pear tree, mine has black bits on the leaves some years but the fruit is not affected, however someone with more knowledge than me may be along soon to offer advice.

As an aside, a pear tree should be at least 10 metres from any property, as it may cause problems with foundations

I saw somewhere that diluted milk solution is a good organic solution to mildew on courgettes. I'm not sure if it works on roses too, but worth a shot.

For the pear tree - sounds like something called "leaf curl" that I think affects peach and plum and cherry trees so probably affects oher fruit trees too. Probably worth a web search to see what solutions are available.

If the stems and trunk is affected with lesions and ouzing gum, then the tree has canker - I think this is more serious - if you have this then again it's worth a search to see if there are any new remedies. It's been many years since I had this problem with my cherry tree, which eventually was cut down.
