it really was too much to resist.... so i didn't!!

 

have paid a visit to merrydale today, and we are now the proud owners of one of their hybrids with an 80% chance of laying blue/green eggs.

 

she is a sweetie, i will post some pictures asap.

 

but please.. no more temptation, at this rate we will be overun with hens

Did you see the lovely marked one in the pen without the crest? I nearly got her!

I am not getting any more other than the ex-bats coming at the end of July.

How pecked is your Merrydale crested? mine has a few feathers missing from her back but are looking better as the day goes on.

could be our new girl? she is not crested, and has some lovely black/white markings on her back (my daughter chose her)

We got a crested blue egg layer from there in February. She did indeed lay beautiful blue eggs, but unfortunately she hasn't laid for about two months

 

Maybe time to get a couple more

I'm so glad you posted this as now I don't feel like the only person who was after a blue layer!!!

 

In case anyone missed it there are going to be skylines at Southmead Poultry on 20th June...contact Tracy. She is really helpful.

 

Enjoy your blue layers...mine seem really dopey but really sweet. I hope they don't stop laying for 2 months....that would be torture!

I also got a crested from there in Feb. She is absolutly beautiful and full of character although a little skittish at times. Her eggs are a wonderful blue, and she lays every day now. The only down side is her eggs are very petite. However they are so pretty, they are nearly always chosen first when i offer eggs to people.
