joegg
Layla our RIR came to us with some tail feathers missing they seem to be growing back nicely, could this be the reason for her soft eggs. She free ranges for most of the day has constant access to layers pellets and oyster shell and we limit treats to early evening. Other two lay most days and have really hard shells. chucknette
Hi Joegg I dont think the soft eggs are because of the regrowth of her tail feathers, she may just need a bit of a calcium boost. You could try limestone flour, it certainly sorted out one of my girls. I was finding her soft eggs in the poo tray, aubiose in the run and on the patio. Since using this flour though she has been laying nice hard shelled eggs. Hope this helps.
Egluntyne
According to the info received at the Advanced Hen Keeping Course, there is a connection between feather growth and calcium, so it sounds as if the two issues could be connected. Why not add some limestone flour to their pellets and see if it helps?
