hils78
My chickens are really quite odd in that they are quite happy staying in their coop even though their door is open from as soon as I'm up till dark. I am in all day long & the neighbour is too & we both keep an eye on the chooks. Even my Merrydale crested is quite happy gazing at the world from their coop. The set up I have is a big hutch that has been modified (5ft x2ftx2ft) so the small mesh door end is opened but they just sit there! My garden is chicken proof & I'm desperate for them to start sorting out the snails & slugs....what do I do? or is this a blessing in disguise?! Egluntyne
Why not boot them out and close the door for a couple of hours, with you in supervision. Once they have tasted freedom, they might be a bit braver.
Omletina Kyckling
My two new crested girls won't come out of the Eglu unless I boot them out and close the door as Egluntine suggested! I've been doing this for a few hours each day otherwise I was concerned they weren't getting food and water! My original Omlet girls were far braver when they first came.
