How do we stop bullying hen?

Can anyone advise please, our girls have been happy together since 3weeks old, they were born end December 07...suddenly Myrtle our noisy hen is constantly pecking at one of the white girls...Myrtle is brown! any ideas why/if/how we can rpevent it we are totally stumped and it is very upsetting seeing one girl picked out 7+ times a day she is being chased and pecked at, we haven't got a clue why or what to do about it, any repleis would be greatly appreciated and asap please...many thanks

Sorry you're having trouble with Myrtle.

 

I would suggest fitting her with a bumper bit asap - she will still be able to eat and drink but not able to peck or pull feathers out.

 

Keep an eye on the victim in case blood is drawn - you may need to seperate them although I suggest a while in solitary might not do Myrtle any harm!!

This might help - its about bumper bits.

 

Do your girls have things to do in the run - boredom can cause bullying - try haning up greens / melons / lettuces to give them something to do - or try layers mash rather than pellets - they take longer to eat mash so have less time for bullying.

thanks for that guys...they have loads to do infact theyu have just had a run extension...we have put the offending lady in a dog cage type situation inside the run foir the time being ...see if it cures her brutish streak that way... we will invest in !a bumper bit asap...little terror she is.... thanks again, and I'll keep you updated on the results!
