esta
Silly question I no, but what does a broody cage look like and how does it stop them being broody??
chelsea
We made our own broody cage. Ours looks like a small wooden hen house and it has an open bottom and open ends which we have covered in mesh. The broody cage is best with an open underside as it allows the air to flow under the hen to cool it down. The key for snapping a hen out of broodiness is to lower its temperature underneath which is why at a last resort some people dunk their hens in cold water. (it didnt work for us though! )
Egluntyne
It is a square box made of wire. Many people use wire dog crates. In order to snap the broody out of it you need to cool her down. The cage should be propped up on bricks so that the air circulated underneath as well as all round. She can still sit, but her nether regions will not be in a nice snug nest, nor will she be in the dark, which they favour when broody. All that she has in the cage is food and water. She needs to be left in the cage for 3 to 4 days for it to work. It is a good idea to place it in the Eglu run, so that she has company, and is safe from predators.
