Has there been a recent fly population explosion?! We have had our girls for nearly 2 years and I am sure we have not had so many flies before.

I have read on the forum that some people use citronella. Where can I get some and what do you do with it?

You can get it online, at boots, Holland and Barret etc.

 

Sprinkle a few drops in the poo tray and nesting box, and in the run if you like.

when I had my eglu run I used to put a few drops on some kitchen towel and put in the poo tray and slipped a couple of pieces under the shade of the run. It really helps with the flies.

We only got our girls last friday and a few days before then we were doing some usual garden work etc and noticed an awful lot of annoying flies around us and congregating in midair. Hubby mentioned them at the time and we both thought there were more than previous years!!

And this was all before any girlies in the garden. You might be right on the fly explosion thing!

my chicks loves trying to eat them and have done a few times, is this bad?

No...it's all extra protein!

 

And the jumping is good exercise.
