Chuck treats...

Recommended Posts

My guys are learning to eat from my hand and Babs now follows me around waiting for me to feed her it's so cute!

I've been giving them the odd mealworm as they go bonkers for them, that and real ones!. But the mealworms are fairly fatty and wondered are their other little treats chucks go potty over?

cooked potato peelings

carrot tops

spinach, lettuce, rocket etc

broccoli

the outside leaves of cauliflower

melon (including seeds)

peppers (ditto)

... I have yet to find a vegetable that they don't like. They're not keen on the stalky bit in a leaf of chard, but it gets eaten eventually.

I'm still trying to find things they don't like  Regular little dustbins they are

Just watch your fingers if you are encouraging them to eat from your hands. I know it's cute but it gets painful when they go for your hands and there is no food there! Might be worth using a regular treat bowl - then when they see the bowl they come running, even if there is no food in it.

thanks, better not tell the kids though because they might start leaving their spuds at tea time for the chucks!! 4 year old has just given them a bun from the kitchen. I thought she was taking out for herself and before I could stop her, she shoved it through the bars to the hens - why do I bother baking????? Anyway hopefully it'll be their eggs int he buns before long!
