Doodledootoo
It's a long story, so I'll cut to the chase. My husband has just emptied a huge sack of Mixed Poultry Grain into the metal bin where we keep the pellets (supplied by Omlet). I've tried to mix it all in as best as I can but I don't know what this means for the girls? Is Mixed Poultry Grain, given as the main food source, OK for chickens or is it too rich/potentially harmful for them to eat it almost exclusively as their main source of food? Thanks in advance. jomaxsmith
Can you get any more pellets? you'll prob be alright to feed them with the mix until you can get more but I personally wouldn't use it as their main food - I'd give it sparingly as treats (depending on the ratio of corn: pellets). The expert at our local poultry centre reckons he gives 1 handful of mixed corn to his 9 hens 3 times a week - so at that rate your bin full might take a while to get through! Snowy
Whoops! I'd buy another bag of pellets and dilute it a bit more with pellets. It won't do them any harm, but I think is the chicken equivalent of loading the diet with too many cakes and biscuits rather than fruit and veg
