AJuff
I'm sure I read on here that pecking order can change over time but i can't find the link. The girls seem unsettled at the moment, escaping at every opportunity to peck at the veg garden, OH frantically building a cage!!! Top hen seems to be taking a pecking from one of the bottom hens and she even crouched for her in submission. Yet No2 hen gave a reminder peck to new top hen. I'm all very confused. Egluntyne
The pecking order changes from time to time, for all sorts of reasons, younger hens come into lay, older hens stop laying, illness. They sort themselves out eventually and unless blood is drawn, there is not much to worry about.
Abbey Road Girl
Egluntine has given her usual sound counsel. Good luck with them settling down soon.
tenzin
I've found that all mine have been at the top and bottom at differnt stages of their 4 year old lives . Currently the hen pecked Maran has become top dog as ive added 2 new youngsters to my garden and she's running the show now . They always settle down after the odd minor scuffle .
