Manchester71
Ahh so, because of my ridiculous 5ft Fences, as you have said they can easily leap/jump over that. If they do, will they ALLWAYS come back?! And other than buying all new fences, any other solutions?
Janepie33
Our girls ate every s"Ooops, word censored!" of grass in our garden and it did not recover. We decided to give the chickens half the garden and seed a small patch for the humans. Seems to work quite well.
ajm200
Depending on the type of chickens you get you might not have a problem with the 5ft fence if you keep their wings clipped. We've got 5 Omlet girls with clipped wings, some of whom would jump up onto the cube run when we first got them but now that they are bigger 4 of them don't even try to jump or fly. The other one is small and a menace. We keep her wings clipped but still see her taking off from time to time and has made it onto the top of our 6ft fences to see off the wild birds. I don't think you can guarantee that they'll find there way back if they do go over the fence. We had one 4.5ft fence before we got the girls and ended up buying some of the willow screening to attach to it. Can you increase the height of the fence post extenders and trellis or similar? cathybc
my 3 girls destroyed the grass in their run within a week. It has sort of recovered, except for one big patch that I think will be bald forever. The grass was pretty poor to start off with though. The eglu and run now stays in one place - which is now soil only.....as daisymay said - they did it, they live with it ! (except when I let them free range and they get the run og the ret of the garden. And house....!)
Sarah B
Tom, My chooks must be bored as they destroy their eglu patch of lawn in a day. Grrrrrr. We move the eglu and run every day but it still happens, they have a mirror, treats you name it but they are lawn scratchers. It is worse if it has rained. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=41560&id=565351959 Not sure if you can access this as it's my facebook page, if not apologies. Edit - I do like them though, they cant help it it is chicken trashing and the eggs are the best ever
