Mrs Slats
Our cats and chickens have often sat in the garden together, each with a healthy respect for the other and always staying 3 feet apart. Until yesterday, when Paxo decided it was time to test the relationship. She stormed up to the cat with hard look on her face. The cat replied with a smart thump of her paw across Paxo's face and then ran off... Paxo was tempted to run after her, but thought better of it. Peace returned (apart from the giggles from Slats and I. ) That was until about 20 minutes later when Paxo decided to have another go. She got another slap round the chops but this time wasn't backing down. She chased the cat across the lawn, fearless and determined. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen and I had to praise the cat for being so restrained... she's a big cat and a keen hunter and I am quite sure could have Paxo for breakfast if she decided to. blackpuddinonnabike
What a coincidence! I was about to post about our chickens and cats this morning! The cats have been really wary of the girls so far, but they've been gradually checking each other out....
cathybc
I had two cats, and number 3 decided to join us about 5 years ago (as they do). For those five years, the two boys have been arguing over who is the 'alpha male'; within a couple of weeks of getting chooks, the answer became clear - Harriet the ex-batt is firmly in charge ! Tiggy
my old girl is 20 and just sits and watches the chickens they peck around her sometimes but don't bother her, Molly is a different matter, ex ferral and & years old totally fearless, she has had a few goes at chicken lunch but after being chased pecked and mobbed by 4 angry chooks she just curls up ontop of the compost bin to watch them
Minnie&Moose
Our male cat (known as asbo cat by some of the neighbours ) has, much to my surprise been very wary of our 2 chickens since their arrival. However, having now had to rescue 2 visiting cats from Minnie the Killer Chicken I think perhaps he's smarter than I originally gave him credit for
