Is there any way to tell which of my two chickens is laying yet? I know other people on here have been able to attribute eggs to specific chickens but one of mine started laying the other day and I am at work, so I have no idea who it was!

we've had 2 eggs from our 3 hens so far and like you we've not been there to see "who dunnit" the only proof we have is that my son asked them and Petunia replied! We're waiting to see if there is any difference in colour but so far these have been almost identical in colour although very different sizes.

Perhaps you could a chicken watch on the days when you are not at work.

Ebony lays very light brown/cream smallish eggs, Ruby dark brown large eggs and Amber hasn't decided between, shell less, speckled or a brown one today.

I read somewhere that the colour of the egg is related to the colour of the ear lobes - ie pale lobes = pale egg shells.

I think you'll have to wait and see who's hogging the nest box and then look at the egg. It's a good excuse for a day or three off work though.
