Noisey Chickens

Recommended Posts

My chickens have started making loud squawking noises early in the morning and will only quieten down if i go and talk to them. Very annoying at 5am in the morning. I really don't want to annoy the neighbours.

Any suggestions,

Lara.

Do you shut the eglu door at night? Or leave it open, either could make a difference. We shut our eglu door and our chooks get let out around 7am. We can sometimes hear them gently clucking or fidgeting around to come out. On one occasion they clucked quite loudly while inside the eglu when the door was shut but that was handy cause the eglu muffles the noise. Either try leaving door shut/open. Someone said on here they keep a conker in the bedroom ready for when they make noise and then chuck it at the run! and that apparently does the trick.

hi there.

I think this time of the year this is a problem with noisy chooks as its so light. There are quite a few threads on similar subjects. :)

We have noisy hens, we always close the cube at night and cover with a dark cover (not covering ventilation holes) and this keeps the chickens in the dark for longer. It works for me and I dont get a peep out of them until we let them out at 6.45-7am.

I have found routine is key, if you let them out the same time every morning they seem to get used at being let out at that time. :D

Shut them in at night.

I used to leave the door open all the time until about this time last Summer when we got wake up calls at 4.30am. I just had to put a stop to it, so now I close the eglu door at night (usually just before I go to bed) and open it up at 7.15am. They are fine and used to it now. They only start up inside their eglu when they hear me put the key in the back door in the mornings (how they hear that I don't know).
