deejmum
We have 4 hens and one cockerel and are fairly new to this. I wondered if anybody knows if there is a difference between fertilized eggs and unfertilized eggs? Should I be keeping my cockerel (lucky) seperate from the girls during the day for the sake of the eggs. I am not really able to separate them at night.? Snowy
I don't have a cockerel, but fertilised eggs are absolutely fine to eat. They don't start to develop until the hen has sat on them and kept them warm. As long as you remove the eggs regularly they will be fine. deejmum
Thanks , I remove them almost instantly because i am addicted to watching the chickens, so they dont get much time between my checks of the nesting box! Is there an actual visual difference though?
