depending on breed, I would say 3 in the eglu itself for roosting.

 

The problem is the run, we have large breeds and the eglu run is too low. They slept in the the eglu fine but were too tall for the run.

Thanks Chelsea, i actually only want it as a 'spare' as my mum lives a mile away and considering moving the girls there whilst we are on honeymoon as they will get a lot more attention and time free-ranging than if she could only pop over every now and then.

 

Problem is, the cube is a large expense for just a spare!!

good idea! We do it ourselves actually. We have the orange "holiday home" eglu and the girls go to my sisters for 2 weeks every year. That is the good thing about the eglu - its easy to transport around.

 

I prefer the eglu to the cube.

Do you put all 5 of your girls in there then or just the three of them still....can see myself ending up with about 3 eglus

 

We are having 2!! We are going to Scotland to a lovely old barn conversion on a farm (just down my street and somewhere i've always wanted to go) and also going to a villa in Tuscany

we have 4 chooks, and yes for 2 weeks they all squeeze into the eglu. We have 1 nest box sleeper, so the rest go on the roosting bars. We used to have 2 eglus and they all piled into one anyway

 

they free range a lot over my sisters, she has a big garden and an un-tended veggie patch so they love to make a mess over there!

 

The honeymoons sound fab (we are going Scotland this year/Skye) and Tucscany - wow. lucky thing.

That's why i want them there as she will be able to let them out a lot. I obviously wouldn't want them cooped up in a tiny eglu all the time...i could always order one and see how they get on. We thought we could go halves on one and that way we can look after hers in our garden when she is away (both my OH and my dad think we are both mad!)

 

I am really looking forward to it....dreading leaving the girls though and my beautiful cat

The way we look at it - its not forever is it? Our chooks are pampered totally (we hardly go out anymore as we dont like leaving them ), they have us wrapped around their little feet. So we figured we need a holiday and its only 2 weeks out of their little life of luxury. So dont feel bad!!

 

I think its a good idea, you might be able to get a slightly cheaper reconditioned one from omlet. If you decide to sell it on after a while they hold their value very well, and you never know - you could get more chooks or your mum could get some!

Haha - i think that's way they are worried about us buying one!

 

That's what we thought, have only had my ex-batts just over a month but they are totally spoilt and they know they can get away with anything!! Think they would hate hardly any attention for a couple of weeks, more than having to maybe be extra cuddly at night for that time!

 

Have heard about the re-conditioned ones, do i just ring omlet and ask about them?

yes, just ring and ask. They will tell you what (if any) colours they have in stock. They are slightly cheaper.
