3 of our 6 did not make it up the ladder at first - mind you 2 were bantams, though one of them managed the next night. There were still 2 (1 bantam, 1 just daft) that couldn't - the bantam managed when we propped a piece of wood against the ladder and has not needed the wood since. The daft one couldn't work it out at all until a frustrated OH caught her to put her to bed (again) and literally "marched" her legs up the rungs - gosh did she squawk! But...the next night she made it up herself!! Good luck!

I don't think you'll need to teach them. When you get your new girls, lock them inside the cube for a while (we left them for about an hour) and then open the door - they should make their way down the ladder. When it came to bed time, ours then made their own way back up without any assistance from us. Our Cream Legbar didn't seem to manage the ladder quite so well, so after a few days we added an extension (a bit from an old wooden shoe rack) to lengthen it to ground level.

Hope all goes well.

As has already mentioned they teach themselves! I put them in cube with door shut once we got them home, but only for 5 minutes!

As long as they go down the ladder they seem to work out how to get back up without any problems! Mine all put themselves to bed quite happily :D
