hey, one of my chickens has just started to lay and the first egg she layed was brocken and then lots of the rest have had no shell. i was just wandering if this is ok or usual and wheather she will start to lay proper eggs soon.

It's not unusual for them to lay soft-shelled eggs.

 

Their egg laying equipment takes a while to get up to speed.

 

They do need a lot of calcium to produce eggs. Limestone flour added to their feed will help give them the calcium levels they need.

One of mine laid a lot of shell-less or thin shelled eggs to start with - they soon get it sorted, though from this one I still get the odd one about once a month.
