enough room? Advice pls ASAP :o)

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have two lovely, if not slightly lazy at laying, gingernut girlies.

I am hoping to get two more girls very soon (ie this wkend/within next week )ready for full intro and communal living at the start of the summer hols

I have an eglu with extended run and the two current girls freerange in our big garden as much as poss whenever I am home.

Would this set up be ok for four at night/during times of enclosure?????

Hi Mrs Chook

I think it all depends on how long they are freeranging for? As a rule of thumb if they are to be confined during the day for any length of time then a standard eglu run, PLUS convertor. PLUS extension ( ie two bits on the end) should give them enough room. If they are freeranging for most of the day every day you could probably get away with a run + convertor. If you go away and they are confined to the run though, they will need hte extra space.

hiya, just to add - I've had 4 in an eglu and standard run quite successfully. but having said that, they freeranged all day from when I let them out (7.30ish) til they went to bed. if we went away for a w/e, I wasnt too worried about them in that small space - but if for longer, I think I'd have had to add the extra run space.

I have 4 hybrid girls in an eglu + converter on the run + lots of freeranging and they are fine.

Thanks HW. I feel much happier about the set up I've arranged now.

I can't wait to let them all freerange and live together. Not yet tho as only got them yesterday and decided to follow gradual advice. So newbies will have to be a bit 'cosy' for a wee while.
