4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Hi All A couple of weeks ago I bought a different brand of layers pellets. Now to me they look and smell the same and cost about the same BUT it seems the chickens arent so keen. (Lots left each day) Could it be the warm weather or my imagination or have other people noted that their chickens prefer one sort? Also my bluebelles feathers look ropey and it seems she has started feather plucking by her tail. No sign of mites so could it all be connected? Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've changed my chickens pellets about 4 times, it never seemed to make a difference to them, they just carried on munching Maybe you have fussy chickens?

Could your Bluebelle be moulting?

 

If so, I think you could expect her to eat less, but also she may stop laying.

 

I chop and change my layers pellets - all according to what I can get - I haven't noticed any problems.

Yes it can. I've noticed this.

 

I even had this recently between different batches of the same brand and they turned their beaks up and took a while to get going. I now try to ensure I have some left over from a bag and mixed it in with the new stuff.

I've just posted along these lines elsewhere.

 

My girls didn't like the Omlet pellets at all.

 

As soon as I changed them to a different brand, they wolfed them down....so maybe they do have a discerning palate after all.

Thanks all I feel a bit better now and will get some of the original pellets tomorrow and see.
