Onion troubles

Recommended Posts

Our onions are looking really sad. The last to be planted are more like pickled onion sized, but the leaves are looking awful. The first sets have grown larger, still green stems, but are beginning to look like they are going the same way. I guess it is to do with the weather, because we went for a walk down memory lane to the allotments and the leeks in some plots looked like our onions. It was quite mixed, some beds with sad onions like ours and others HUGE and very healthy. I assume it could be rust, or mould of sorts. So a couple of questions - should I harvest the onions now to prevent more disease? Are they likely to be edible (I would freeze them)? Finally, is it likely to spread to my newly planted leeks and should I be protecting them? :?
