charliechick
Hi guys Brought our 4 girls home today and they had a lovely afternoon in the garden in their cube run. At around half 8 they were trying to get up to bed but just didnt know how, apart from the blackrock who tried but could'nt quite make it. After watching for an hour boyfriend and I went in the run and put them in there. Do you think they will expect the same tomorrow night? We tried the torch in the nest box before hand to tempt them in the right direction but no joy. Prob worried about nothing but wanted to see what you guys think Charliechick xx
Egluntyne
Congratulations of getting your girls. They may need help for a couple of nights till they get the hang of things. How old are they? If they are younger than POL they might find it a bit hard till they have grown a bit.
Helen&Lee
Welcome to the fabulous world of chickens I helped mine for the first three nights, after that I left them to it. I also put a thick block of wood/timber bearer down under the ladder so they could use that as a stepping stone. Helen
Egluntyne
I also put a thick block of wood/timber bearer down under the ladder so they could use that as a stepping stone. I put a log there so that poor little Nugget could get onto the first rung. She's no longer there, but I haven't thought to move it yet. charliechick
Thanks guys, Thats a good idea to put a block of wood or log at the bottom of the ladder. Thay are only 15 weeks old, look like chickens but only small, Ive got a Sussex Star, Magpie, Warren and Pepperpot. I was training them to eat slugs from my hand through the bars and eventually they all realised that the scary hand did have something yummy on the end of it They dont realise that the water is in the glug yet though so Ive had to put a small cup of water in the corner near it as I knew they would be thirsty and could'nt just leave them to eventually find it, that could take days! They came down into the run this morning no problem but as I was in the bathroom and didnt see they probably did a big leap. Can't wait to finish work and rush home to see if they ok, ha ha charliechick xx
