alison
I got my 4 Omlet chooks on Friday abd they have settled very quickly, getting used to me coming in and out of the pen . I bought an Amber Star and a Speckeldy yesterday afternoon and put them straight into the cube with some water and food which they ate. The other four put themselves to bed at around 9ish, altogether in the cube. When i had a look the two newbies were in the nesting box snuggles up with the two gingernuts, looking very cosy and relaxed. They haven't ewten the broccoli or lettuce to my surprise, but did eat grapes. I opened the door at around 7.30 The 'old hands' Omlet hens came out straightaway followed by the Amber star. She seems quite happy, feeding and drinking, gets a bit cornered and one pepperpot has the odd peck at her, but is managing to hold her own. The Speckeldy hasn't come out, she is on the roosting bars, I have put some food and water in the cube for her. Should I make her come out? The Amber star has now gone back into the cube and is staying put. Also, Thornes told me they should still be on growers, (they are all the same age, around 16 weeks) not layers as supplied by Omlet until at least 20 weeks, what are your views on this? Thank you
Egluntyne
Generally they stay on growers pellets till 18 weeks. I would encourage the Speckledy to go out into the run. Maybe she is a bit uncertain of what is expected.
