mrs chook
What a week! I have lost one of my two beautiful chinnies today, he passed away quickly, and I am so upset This time last week we got our new girls (upping the female/male ratio in our household , they're now 15 weeks and I am sure they have grown! They are still confined to their run and have made tentative contact with the other girlies. What age should i let them out to freerange? Should I wait til POL or would the next week or so be ok, as they are now quite used to each other? Any advice pls? :
Egluntyne
It is best to wait till they are around 22 weeks. A forum member, on the advice of a breeder, put some youngsters in with adult hens and it ended in disaster. Info re managing intros smoothly **here** Sorry about your chinchilla. mrs chook
Thanks for your lovely posts. Thanks (AGAIN!) Egluntine My long suffering OH and I are making a large enclosure up the top end of the garden for them all, so I'll keep the youngies in their run. Talking of 'disputes' the youngies are starting to go toe to toe a bit - poss. sorting their order out at 15 weeks? Or sick of being shut in a run together When we're set up I think I'll give them biggest run to stay in.
