Intoducing A New Chicken

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I bought a silkie this weekend, she's quite small so i am unsure as to whether she is a young standard or a bantam.

I introduced her to the other chickens (GNR, 2x PP) last night when they all went to roost. They made no noise thoughout the night but this morning when i let them out the other chickens attacked her so i separated them straight away.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i can do to help them get on ?

(green eglu)

PP - Barbara

PP - Susan

GNR - Margaret

I'd be carefull introducing just one bird as she will obviously be the 'centre of attention' from your other girls and may get picked on quite badly. Also if she is quite young then she can't really stand up for her self either. Take your time, provide separate accommodation, run, food and water and maybe read the below posts. Don't mean to scare you but it could get quite nasty

thanks for the suggestions, i thought thinks would be okay because i have had 2 of the chickens for 3 weeks and another for 2. When these were intoduced there were no problems and i suppose i was a bit naive in thinking this would be the same with the silkie.
