Hi everyone! I am getting 4 ex battery hens this weekend and am busy preparing their new home. They will be living in a second-hand ark until they are strong enough to meet my other girls and I have saved up enough to buy another eglu. I am a bit worried about the flooring in the ark in that there isn't one, just roosting bars. Will they be able to cope with this, or should I put in some sort of solid flooring, at least until they are stronger? Any advice gratefully received.

Maybe put the ark on some slabs as it won't be rodent proof as it is.

 

Easy for hosing clean too.

Thanks Egluntine - good advice, as always! What do you think about the roosting bars-v- solid flooring question? I don't know how bad their little feet will be, and am concerned that they might not be able to manage roosting bars yet. I know that you have some ex batts and would be grateful for your opinion - or that of any others with experience of ex batts.

My three ex- batts Ola, Lilia and Flavia took to the roosting bars straight away.

 

I remeber being quite surprised the first night they were here, as they put themselves to bed at a decent hour and I expected them to lie in the nesting box, but they were lined up in a row on the bars, snoring gently.
