Jaack
I bought a gold silkie last weekend and its very very smelly, just from lifting it out of its box when i got her home the smell got imprinted onto my hands and clothes. After a week or so in the fresh air and cleanliness of my garden i'm sure she will clean herself up, but is there something i can do now, like give her a bath? If so what should i add to the water, i doubt they appreciate bubblebath! - Barabara - Susan - Margaret + Cilla the smelly silkie!!
Gamebird
Hello Jack I've never actually bathed a chicken but I think you should give her a chance to settle in. She will be a bit upset by the journey and so bathing her might not be exactly what she needs right now. As you say the smell might go away once she has had a chance to free range and give herself a dust bath.

Egluntyne
Why not let her dustbathe? My ex-batts smelled terrible when they fiirst arrived, but it soon went away, with dustbaths and a few dabs of red mite powder.
Jaack
atm she doesnt have the run of the full garden with the rest of the flock whilst she settles in however, i have put a tray of soil in and she has been using it. Hopefully she will clean herself up soon. thanks for the suggestions.
Hen Watch
She will probably be fine once she has dustbathed. This is on the Omlet Guide though about cleaning. http://www.omlet.co.uk/guide/guide.php?view=Chickens&cat=Chicken%20Care&sub=Cleaning
