I love my Eglu (and so do my girls) and I'm serioulsy considering getting a Pig-lu for my 4 guinea pigs. It would be so much easier to keep clean than the 3 storey wooden hutch and I think the run would be more secure too. Before I rush out and spend all that money I wondered how others got on with theirs. SAB Posted July 17, 2008 Share Posted July 17, 2008 Ours are technically in Rablu (same as piglu but longer run) as we decided on guinea pigs after rabbits had died. Our guineas love it and have survived Scottish weather in all seasons, including snow. I know some people are concerned it will not be warm enough in winter but the construction of the house is much better than wooden hutch and with plenty bedding they are well warm enough in winter. We have also positioned in area of garden where there is a bit of shelter that helps. The bars are great for dropping bits of snacks (spinach, carrots, etc). We had wooden hutch in past and much prefer this for cleanability, foxproofness, withstanding wet weather (we get so much of it that we found it tended to rot, especially if aided by chewing pets!) and it is possible to make a really fun environment with tubes, housing from cardboard boxes, etc and they seem to have a lot of fun with. Ours is positioned outside our french windows and they can see us at night and come and shout at us! I think you can guess I would highly recommend! Sheilaz Posted July 25, 2008 Share Posted July 25, 2008 Just had to comment about the ease of cleaning. This evening I was running out of time to get some jobs done. The Guinlu took less than 5 mins to clean thoroughly; Top off, old bedding tipped out of removable tray. Wipe tray, put in fresh newspaper, aubiose & straw, lid back. Amazing. I locked the door with the guineas in the run, then let them back in when I'd finished. Fantastic. After 20 years of wooden hutches, I'm really enjoying the simplicity of the Guinlu.
