I've been invited for an interview at a secondary school for an admin post. The job would be brilliant for me as it sounds really interesting and I could still drop off and collect my children from school, and it is term time only!

 

Does anyone have any hints for the sort of questions I may be asked at a school interview. Part of the interview will be carrying out job related tasks -any idea of what they may ask me to do?

 

I'm really out of practice as I haven't worked for 7 years, so any hints would be much appreciated.

Maybe photocopying, filing, word processing, answering phone, budget, SIMs ( which is school and children's info)............. I know the ladies in our office do most those things - My school is primary so there may be different stuff at secondary level.Maybe figures as well if it is dealing with dinner monies - depends on the school I guess. I'd guess maybe a prioritising some tasks and filing could be one to see if you know how to (you'd be surprised!).

 

I'm sure there'd be questions giving scenarios such as "If a parent/pupil comes in and says XYZ what would you do?"

 

If it's a ssecondary school then you are more likely to be task specific, in a primary school the role tends to be covering more areas. Take a look at the job description and see which tasks you think it would be possible to set up as a test. That should give you a fairly good idea. They won't ask you to use SIMS though because unless you have prior training you could really muck the system up

Thanks for the hints. I'm feeling quite excited about the interview (although I'm sure nerves will creep in nearer the time!). The job is doing all the admin to do with a certain initiative, so I've being doing lots of research on the internet to find out as much as I can about it all.
