Can you compost Megazorb?

Recommended Posts

I can't seem to get Hemcore or Auboise where I live and the next best think is megazorb. I'm not sure how it differs from Hemcore and Auboise but I think it is paper based. As I seem to get through a lot of it I'd like to compost it - anyone know if I can?

Thanks :)

A friend of mine has acquired a gerbil and i was curious to know what the substrate was in it's cage. I was informed it was Megazorb and instantly thought of this thread. I found the site of Megazorb and it looks like fab stuff

Have you been using it for long wombatally? Has anyone else out there? It looks cheaper than Aubiose too. Hmm, am tempted. Looks nice and snuggly for my girls in winter. Would probably just use it in the house though (They live in half of my shed) it looks so absorbent that I'm not sure my girls would scratch around in it in the run.

If anyone has their opinions I would be grateful.

If it's anything like Aquamax horse bedding, and it sounds very similar, then it expands when wet.

My worry would be that if the girls ate it and then drank some water it would expand in their crops possibly causing a blockage. It's possible that the chickens wouldn't want to eat it but I would worry in case they did so even though I bed my horses on it I still buy Aubiose for the chickens.

Thanks for that Stoice. I must admit I only got it as I can't get auboise. I was using shavings in their house and nest box but have started using the megazorb as it lasts so much longer. In the nest box it is fluffy and it's easy to poo pick too. It tends to hold moisture to the bottom so the top stays dry and I chuck a handful in daily on top, cleaning out fully on a weekend.

I use bark chips in the run as they like to root around in it.

It is only £5 for a large bag that lasts me a long time. I'd give it a go if you can get it and try it out.
